I am a proud Special Education teacher. My role as a Special Educator is to teach, consult, advocate and facilitate students’ success. My goal is to “Enable Every Student’s Full Potential.”
I am knowledgeable about my students’ disabilities and the impact of the disability on learning. I frequently gather data related to my students’ current academic, developmental and functional skill level. I am also knowledgeable about specially designed instruction, supports that can be implemented and other instructional needs. I have knowledge of each type of disability and the specific needs of the student with that disability which enables me to work with a team to implement an individualized education plan for each student.

Some of my duties include but are not limited to:
- Curriculum Modification: by assisting the classroom teacher in modifying the curriculum to meet the learning style and needs of the child with a disability
- Parent conferences
- Educational evaluator: in many cases the resource room teacher is asked to do the educational evaluations for initial
evaluations, screening and triennial evaluations. - Pre-and post-testing using group standardized tests
- Involvement at the annual review-an annual meeting held by the IEP Committee to discuss the progress of each child with a disability and to plan the next year’s Individual Education Plan
- Involvement in the triennial evaluation process-an evaluation that takes place every three years to determine if the conditions for the original classification are still present or need to be modified.
- Monitoring the IEP, modifications and accommodations
